Under the regime of Yahya Jammeh, the former Gambian dictator, thousands of victims suffered human rights violations: extrajudicial executions, enforced disappearances, acts of torture, and sexual violence.
In their quest for justice, recognition, and redress, women victims are helping one another overcome their physical and psychological wounds. By sharing their experiences and resources—through their work to preserve memory and the long journey toward redress they are undertaking—they are becoming agents of change and bearers of hope.
